Week 12 - 2D&3D

12/10/10, Week 12 - 2D&3D

Mark Wasn't here today, so i went on to do some more editing to the two pictures that are going onto my project. i have now put the two images into an indesign file and have set up all the cutting lines using the guides so that they are all even and the same distance apart throughout the entire picture. i have also exported the image to a pdf ready to print using the A3 printer. Just need to talk to Damien about using it also using it to print off the posters for the exhibition tomorrow. all i need to do now is finish the 3D part of the project which i will give a crack when i get home. my mum also said that she will give me a hand as she is a creative person and she knows what she is doing. so by next week i should have my final piece completed and ready for the exhibition.

Blogging on other students in the class

i think over all, everyone in our class has made an excellent effort in creating pieces for the exhibition. Jessicas posters turned out great and the way she has coloured them and arranged them suits the theme she was going for. i think the editing of the picture is very well done and it looks like something you would find in a magazine. Sarahs posters and clothes pamphlets look great, deffinatly something i would find in a shop. and the pictures sell the clothes very well. i think sarah would make a very good fashion designer. Jarrods posters and stickers are excellent, i really like the designs he did and they are very modern and something i would hang on my wall, he will make a great graphic designer (better remember us all when he gets famous). Amelias lanterns turn out very well, the patterns on the lanterns are not what i was expecting which made it very exciting. the way the light hit the wall was also a mood setter. i would defiantly buy some for my house. Zacs posters turned out good as well, his editing is great and each poster fitted in with each other.

Zac

Effectiveness of design process

Zac has changed his mind on the project he is doing, not sure if he will have enough time to do it but I think the new idea is good and he should give it a crack

Effectiveness of concept communication

The communication is a bit hard to understand but I think once he make it and I see it in person I will have a better understanding of what he is going for

Progress in the last week

For the last project he hasn’t done much but is focusing a lot on the new idea which I think I good.

Sarah

Effectiveness of design process

I think the design is coming along very nicely and sarah is making good progress.

Effectiveness of concept communication

The concept is clear and it is something im interested in as im love shopping for clothes

Progress in the last week

Has made a lot of progress during the pass couple of weeks

Carol

Effectiveness of design process

The process has come along good as she is finished a couple of pieces already.

Effectiveness of concept communication

I don’t really see the concept of each piece but they are colourful and happy so I think a cheerful mood is being set.

Progress in the last week

Very good, has finished heaps of pieces

Jarrod

Effectiveness of design process

I think the design for his piece of work has been very well thought out and I cant wait to see the finished product.

Effectiveness of concept communication

The communication is pretty clear here as it is an artist portfolio and therefore has very nice art covering the front cover.

Progress in the last week

I think he has made heaps of progress in the last week, he has the images sorted of what he wants on the front and it’s a good idea.

Amelia

Effectiveness of design process

I like the design process that Amelia is going for, she has the decorations and patterns worked out for her lanterns.

Effectiveness of concept communication

I think she is going for more of a floral kind of theme, which I like and I think, is most suited for this project.

Progress in the last week

Has made a lot of progress in the last week with finding the designs for the lanterns.

The 3D and the 2D classes have slowly merged therefore most of the stuff is going to be similar. for todays class i worked on how my picture is going to be cut and also on the DL and poster.

Week 10 - 2D

28/09/2010, Week 10 – 2D

cutting foam - what is going to be the best way to cut it and the neatest way.
electric knife, hot wire? might have to stay home over the weekend and do some tests.
glues - what glue is going to be the best for sticking it all together and so that the paper doesnt crinkle.
working out the angles - how am i going to have the pictures facing so that people dont see just white foam, i originally wanted just two sides but mite have to do some tests to work out what looks good.

Group Exercise.
Stevie
Design process
Pretty clear process, could visualize the end project. Needs some testing, make a prototype. Go for it. Try different variations.
Concept communication
Pretty clear, end product matches up with the concept, not dark and gloomy but a happy vibe.

Amelia
Design process
Very well thought out, thorough.
Concept communication
Bringing light to the world.

Sarah
Design process
Well thought out, executed and a prototype that works. More experimentation with the swing tags, if she has time.
Concept communication
Having the prototype helps communicate the concept

Jarrod
Design process
Practical, thorough research has been done. Clear and well thought out
Concept communication
Make a mini model to help with the communication to improve the final outcome or help visualize the end product.

Zac
Design process
Done some good experimentation. Going in the right direction.
Concept communication
Concept wasn’t really clear, but with some specific points it will become more clear.

Carol
Design process
Well thought out, got all the materials, showed a step by step process from start to finish. Complex but well planed.
Concept communication
Concept not very clear, a broad concept. Smell good.

Jess
Design process
Needs to be developed a bit more.
Concept communication
To bring anime into graphic design.

Week 9 - 3D

21/09/2010, Week 9 – 3D

Make a list of your proposed exhibition works
- Photograph of a frog and make uneven levels using foam to make a 3D effect.
- Something from the drawing class
- And i want to make 1 more thing but im not sure yet

Itemise:
Dimensions
I want the picture of the frog to be A3 but maybe a square so there is not so much dead space around the outside.
Display requirements (hanging / floor space / special FX / audio / video)
Im thinking of maybe hanging it, or having it sit on a stand.
A short description of the concept
I think frogs are very cute and i have happened to capture one smiling. I want people to feel warm inside when they see this photo as no other state in Australia is known for there wildlife.
The name of the piece
Smile, And The Whole World Will Smile With You!
Materials used
Printed paper
Foam
Cardbored

Week 9 - 2D

21/09/2010, Week 9 – 2D

Jess and Zac show us their visual diarys, Jess shared us her ideas for her project and Zac showed us his logo designs.

Group Exercise

Coming up with some poser concepts for the exhibition, we all got into a group and start to throw some ideas around. We ended up with the idea of people standing in a row with paper bags in their heads with each letters of the title “uphere” printed on each bag. Each person will be holding something to do with each creative arts class for example: a mouse for the design students, violin bow for the music students, earphones for the multimedia students, paintbrushes for the art students and rulers for the architecture students. When mucking around working out how we will do this, we came up with a better way of taking the picture. Having a projector to project the name on a white background and selected students to hold up books for each letter.

Just mucking around with the projector for the design of the poster
Using the projector and the books to highlight each letter.
