Week 7 - 3D

31/08/2010, Week 7 – 3D

Show and tell

Amelia and Jarrod talked about their 3D art. They had item to show such as a cut out of a lantern and the shape it is going to be also Jarrod had a portfolio with some designs on the front that he is thinking of doing on the real thing. i think they have done a very good job and a lot of thought has gone into each design.

Presenting our 3d concepts on sports and fashion items

Carol, Zac and I got up and explained our concepts and feelings on our sports or fashion item designs to the class. We had to refine the design as well. For my design I had a shoe, which looked like a runner with a heel on it. the style is the same as a runner with all the stripes on the side, it also has laces. the stripes can be any different colour also having the idea of glitter to make it more stylish is an option.
Here are a few designs i have found on the internet (Google Images - Sports Heels)And here is a design i have put togetherConcepts
Going with a sports theme
Having the style the same, as a sports runner would look, laces, stripes etc.
The heel can be a stiletto or a wedge.

Presenting our work to the class

Teddy got up and showed us his work on the logos he did for Blox.

We need to come up with a logo and theme 200mm square 3mm bleed for the Off The Leash Magazine. We have missed the deadline for the front cover but if we can get everything done by Thursday we can get an ad on the second page of the magazine.

Today we all designed a few different logos either drawing them or using illustrator. I have drawn a few in my book and I also have done a heap on illustrator.

I think my designs are simple but effective because the name stands out and the graphics also help to explain the name. growth was the main factor i was going for as we are uni students and we are growing to become what we want to be as a person. A flower i think describes growth in the best way as it starts off as a small like bud and gradually blossoms into a beautiful flower as it shows its self off to the world. be the best you can be.!

Week 5 - 3D

17/08/2010, Week 5 – 3D

presenting 3D design concept to the class

a few of our class mates got up in front of the class and shared their ideas for a 3D design. the ideas that people came up with are very good and i would like to see if they actually follow through.
Jarrod came up with the wooden portfolio design, and he had a lot of answers to back up everybody's questions which i think is good because he has obviously thought about the process in detail. Jessica has her design as posters of the near future in technology and Amelia's idea of the lanterns is great because not only is it art but it can be used over and over for parties, celebrations etc.
discussion on challenging design concept assumptions
challenging design concepts is good because it helps you think outside the square and put your ideas to test. also it may help you come up with other ideas or ways to form a better concept.
Challenging Jarrod would be the materials such as what wood would be used as well as how is he going to design the front cover. Jessica needs to find bits and pieces form the dump to make the 3D posters come to life and Amelia needs to find the best materials for her lanterns so they don't catch on fire.

Week 5 - 2D

17/08/2010, Week 5 – 2D

Group Exercise

Q1 the doctor in London has a brother in Manchester who is a lawyer, the lawyer doesn’t have a brother in London but he has a sister who is a doctor.

Because they use the brother word a lot, and people think doctors are usually men.

Q2 push the cork into the bottle

There could be a hole in the bottle

Get someone else to take the cork out

Q3 grandma has two daughters and the two daughters have two daughters

Three totally different people, not related

Exercise 2

Assumptions

He needs transport

He has to drive

He needs to be there on time

His going to sleep and leave in the morning

What would be on your list of assumptions if you were mike?

· Take a plane

· Ride a bike/motorbike

· Leave Los Angeles now while the traffic isn’t bad and go to Hollywood and sleep there

Challenge each item on the list to find a solution?

Plane – mite not be able to get a flight in time
- there might not be a plane that goes from LA to Hollywood

Bike – there might be heaps of people in the sidewalk
- it might be dangerous on the road with the cars

Sleep in Hollywood – might not be anywhere to sleep at that time in the morning.

Week 4 - 3D

10/08/2010, Week 4 – 3D

This week we went through last weeks homework which was the car design. we had show and tell to see what everyone had come up with. the picture below is my three designs of the cars i came up with.
Group Work

Zac – Apple
Making a 3D Object out of paper
Sarah – TV Boxes
Making the pyramid out of TV shaped boxes
Jess – 4 elements
The 3D elements that are apart of the 2D design is jewelry. In the 2D posters there will be characters wearing jewelry. There are 4 posters and one piece of jewelry per poster. The posters will be based on the four elements of the changing seasons. For example there will a girl wearing a necklace made of fire, and that necklace will be based on the element.
Stevie – Small Life
3D sculpture of animals and nature.

Design Exploration

Zac - techniques others have used on youtube.
Sarah – exploring the internet to see if this idea has been done before
Jess – looking for different ideas from other artist
Stevie – finding pictures and ideas on nature.

Design Challenges

Zac – doing the poster in photoshop or illustrator
Sarah - different types of cardboards, and glues to keep the pyramid together.
Jess - The use of different materials and time consumption.
Stevie – different materials and ways of putting it all together

Individual
Two Experiments

1. The different materials used. For example
o Paper
o Cardboerd
o Scrapes
o Clay
2. The way its presented
o Sculpture
o In a box

Pros
• Using a whole range of different materials shows creativity

Cons
• The cost of materials may be to expensive
• It my be time consuming

Choosing and Refusing

i think presenting this as a sculpture would be the most appropriate option as doing it in a box is restricted.

Here are some other pictures i thought were pretty cool. i might try this style for my project.

Week 4 - 2D

10/08/2010, Week 4 – 2D

Group Exercise - Experimenting, Exploring and Challenging

for this group exercise we had to start coming up with the 2D designs for our exhibition portfolio. as a group we got some ideas and started thinking how to explore them and challenge them.

Design Exploration

Sarah - TV Pictures
The pictures that are going to be displayed on each TV screen in the 3D TV pyramid.
Zac – Fantasy posters
Photos of people edited in photoshop – modern clothing with medieval psychic powers
Jess – World changes
2D presentation of four separate pictures on the four elements fantasy prospective.
Stevie – Nature Danger
Edited photographs of animals left homeless by humans

Design Challenging

Sarah - making her own pictures instead of using someone else's
Zac - Make it stand out
Jess - Materials used
Stevie - Getting the photos of the animals

Prac.

Individual - Experimentation, variation and evaluation

Two experiments

1. using photographs of animals and editing them on Photoshop to produce a collage.

2. creating the pictures using illustrator and go for a more cartoon feel.

Pros

· Taking photographs of animals will come across more appealing then computer generated ones.

· Using Photoshop, I can edited the pictures I take easily and make them look the way I want them.

· Interpret both Photoshop and Illustrator techniques into the final design.

· Show my skills in using Photoshop

Cons

· Using illustrator, I can only create basic shapes and forms therefore the overall picture mite look a bit plain like.

· It might be a bit hard to get pictures of the animals I want

· Getting the right pictures might be time consuming.

Choosing and refusing

I think using real pictures of animals would be better then creating them, as the pictures I create mite not look real.

Week 3 - 3D

3/08/2010, Week 3 –

In this class we talked about our CDU bag designs and what would work best. Having room for plenty of books, A3 and A4 is a good idea, saves carrying them. A place to put all you pens and pencils also a place to hide your valuables.

For our group exercise we had to use the concept of reducing to come up with a personal transporting device. It needs to be eco friendly and we need to come up with a catchy name for it. After alot of thought we came up with a one seater car that had a battery and was powered off of green house gases. We call it Eco Beetle.
The panels on the Eco Beetle would be made out of recycled plastics.

Three different versions of the car needed to be produces, i came up with:
Eco Party
-must be eye candy/flash
-a loud sound system
-supply everything you need to have a good party or to take the party with you.
Eco Recreation/Family
-more space for equipment
-fridge and bbq
-add-ons, for family seating
Eco Business
-modern electronics
-a place to secure paperwork
-places to store business suits

Week 3 - 2D

3/08/2010, Week 3 –

Today a few of us did a presentation on the page tags we made the week before. Some of the design were very unique and well though out. My designs are simple and clear as i think its easy to read and to the point.

For the group activity, we had to randomly select two different words and write down what they mean to us and what you think of when you put them together. We selected the words kite and bread.
When i think of kite these things come to mind:

  • fun
  • colourful
  • different shapes
  • games
  • flexible
  • flows with the wind
  • sky high
  • peaceful
  • recreational
  • birds
  • clouds

When i think of bread these things come to mind:

  • yummy
  • hard crust
  • birds
  • soft center
  • meals
  • dinner parties
  • multi grain
  • raisin
  • white
  • wholemeal
  • France

the concepts i came up with are

  • a kite that is edible (for feeding birds)
  • a kite that looks like bread
  • site shaped bread
  • using a kite to transfer bread

Planing Concepts
programs i like to use
-illustrator
-photoshop

Things i like
-animals
-jungle
-foliage

Concepts
-animals hurt by oil spills
-animals left homeless by rain forest demolition
-the beauty of extincted animals, not to let the rest end up the same way.
-the uniqueness of animals and foliage
